Early nineteenth century nude study,
An early nineteenth century framed charcoal life-study of a male figure.
The figure is shown heroically nude, from the front, in a full length, adlocutio pose, contraposto and grasping a shaft or baton.
The pose is a famous one in Classical Art, said to embody power, control and leadership, and its most famous example is the Augusto di Prima Porta in the Vatican Museums in Rome.
