The large oak bookcase was commissioned by architectural historian Charles Brooking in 1992. It was constructed from oak and pine cupboards he salvaged from the Purley High School for Girls, Purley, designed by Jarvis & Richards. "The cupboards were beautifully constructed and I believe were actually part of the building which pre-dated World War II. The pine boarding at the back of the bookcase was also recycled from these cabinets."
