The Prisoner of War Camp at Milton Common – a stone’s throw from The Three Pigeons was used for the containment of Italian prisoners during the Second World War. These tanks were raised on a small brick tower in order to provide water. After the war the huts were given to provide housing to Polish refugees who – in the turmoil of the post-war years had seen their towns and cities destroyed. Later, the buildings became a turkey farm. These days the “Camp Industrial Estate” is a hotbed of industry and craft. We have salvaged two similar tanks that make a good pair but available individually.
