A Lebus oak glazed sectional bookcase,
the five stacked sections topped with a moulded lid and each glazed with a flip-up door and a pair of small cabinet knobs and a lock-plate bearing the maker's name, the lower folio section larger and with a drawer,
Harris Lebus took his father Louis’ cabinet-making firm in Wellclose Square to Tabernacle Street in Shoreditch in late Victorian times. The Curtain road area was then a hotbed of furniture making and his company boomed. It later went on to occupy a vast site in Tottenham. This bookcase is emulating the successful designs of the Globe Wernicke Company.
