Research continues to the precise origin of this large pair of oak thrones. De-commissioned, they had languished in a joiner’s Oxford workshop for many years pending restoration. They may have originated in the Bodleian Library, the Sheldonian theatre, or any one of the dining rooms or chapels that grace Oxford. LASSCO was happy to acquire them and undertake the restoration.
The scale and grandeur of the chairs certainly indicates their home was centre-stage in a very grand, formal space.
