William Smellie FRSE FSA Scot (1740–1795) was a Scottish printer who edited the first edition of the Encyclopædia Britannica. He was also a naturalist and antiquary, who was joint founder of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and a friend of Robert Burns.

    Antique English Pewter Mug

    A hughly patinated and worn, early 19th Century pewter Ale Mug. The vessels is decorated with broad banding and turned rim with an articulated single volute style handle and notched thumb-piece all on a heavy ogee moulded base. The mug is unmarked with but the form, weight and wear suggest an early 19th Century date.

    Alpine Flowers

    Anton Hartinger was an Austrian artist who specialized in still life paintings of fruit and flowers. He was born in Vienna in 1806 and  a member of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from 1843 to 1851. He later became a pioneer in the field of chromolithographic printing. He died in Vienna in 1890.
