Beautiful chromolithographs, published c 1920. Framed.
Magnus von Wright started out as a taxidermist in the 1820's, he stuffed birds for Societas pro Flora et Fauna Fennica, the oldest scientific society in Finland, and in 1845, became taxidermist a the university's zoological museum.
Von Wright; though a skilful taxidermist, his reputation like that of his two brothers, Wilhelm and Ferdinand, rests on his skill as a zoological illustrator. The first edition of Svenska fåglar, efter naturen och på sten ritade, appeared between 1828 and 1837 and in 1859 he published the first handbook on Finnish birds.
These chromolithographs are from the second edition Svenska fåglar, efter naturen och på sten ritade, published c1920 and printed by A. Bortzells, Stockholm.

Anton Hartinger was an Austrian artist who specialized in still life paintings of fruit and flowers. He was born in Vienna in 1806 and a member of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna from 1843 to 1851. Hubert John Williams (1905-1989). Portrait, landscape and architectural painter, etcher and illustrator. Williams was born in Beckenham, Kent in 1905 and later studied at the Royal Academy Schools where he was awarded the Landseer Scholarship for 1928. He also attended the St Martins School of Art and the L.C.C. Schools. Between 1926 and 1939 he exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Scottish Academy, Royal Institute of Painters in Oil, and the New English Art Club amongst others. During WWII he worked as a cartographer in the War Office, then as commercial illustrator from 1946 specialising in children's education. His work can be found in many public collections including The Imperial War Museum and Museum of London.£395
