Smoker’s Bow Windsor armchair,
Yorkshire circa 1860-1880,
fruitwood, ash and elm
Although commonly described as Smoker's Bow or Smoking chairs, examples such as this were commonly used as office chairs, in working men's clubs or public houses. The general design and turnings of the spindles, arm supports, legs and stretchers are all typical of chairs made in Yorkshire.
