It was Carl Linnaeus the 18th-century Swedish botanist founded modern taxonomy; the art of pressing seaweed. In the 19th century the during natural history boom it became socially acceptable for women to go “seaweeding” with both Queen Victoria and George Eliot pressing seaweed in their day. Some people went even further, publishing field guides, with suggestions on proper attire and etiquette.
