Bernard George (1894-1964) was the Barkers’ in-house architect. The building of this landmark emporium was a vast project that tied together the numerous business and properties acquired by the Barker family from the 1890’s. Started in the 1930’s the curved department store was interrupted by the war and was completed in the 1950’s (so we can’t be precise on the date of these doors).
