Engraved by Valentine Green, based on a painting by Lemuel Francis Abbott; Circa 1790. Published by R. Rowell of, 6 Grove Rd Brixton, London SW. circa 1850-1880.

Lemuel Francis Abbott was an English portraitist and painter. The the son of a Leicestershire clergyman, he went to London to study painting with Francis Hayman shortly before the latter’s death in 1776; he may have completed his studies in Derby with Joseph Wright of Derby.

He is chiefly famous for his naval portaits including a famous portrait of Lord Nelson, now hanging in Downing Street.
