These doors are heavy and beautifully made. On first sight we took them to be from a late Victorian railway carriage – especially with the coach corner mouldings. There was indeed a “Bristol & Gloucester Railway” and a “Birmingham and Gloucester Railway” dating from the early and rather fragmented railway network of early Victorian times – which could explain the monogram. Both of these companies were bought-out before long and may not have had passenger carrying facilities of this calibre or this later date. So the railway connection could be a red herring or it could be notable.
If these doors are not railway related they are likely from a back-bar. Note the hinge-edge and closing-edge are rebated – a usual arrangement for doors closing into a screen of the same thickness (rather than a frame with a stop-moulding).
