An English road-mender’s living van
late 19th / early 20th Century
the barrel roof and rectangular body clad in old corrugated iron on a timber frame, old paint finish; raised on timber axles, the graduated pairs of spoked cast-iron wheels on iron half-axles, one pair on a bogey, the cabin in its original condition - boarded to the ceiling, walls and floor - a sprung drop-down bed-base hinged to one corner, a cast-iron stove to another and a single window to one side,

Larger than usual authentic Shepherd’s hut this living van was likely used on the Highway – perhaps hauled by a steam-roller. It is wonderfully original – the interior still has the fold-down bed base and a cast-iron stove.
