Fire marks were presented to companies and individuals who invested in Fire Insurance products for display on the front of their premises. The mark re-assured early privately run Fire Brigades that their work was being paid for – that the occupant had fire insurance cover.
This one is somewhat battered with a loss to the bottom right corner.
