The fact that a chimneypiece of this design is carved from stone rather than marble may point to a provincial origin - perhaps Lincolnshire where Ketton stone is quarried rather than an urban source where masons and marbles were more readily available. The central mask depicts Vesta : Goddess of the hearth and home.
