This is a replica of the 1816 statue by Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770-1884) of the Olympian Goddess Hebe.
Hebe is the goddess of youth. Her role in Classic mythology was to pour the drink of immortality to the other Greek gods. In other Myths she subsequently became the bride of the deified Heracles upon his assumption. Thorvaldsen created two versions of Hebe, a statue in 1806 and this, a second statue in 1816, nearly identical to the first but with the chest fully covered by the goddesses’ dress.
