The New College Kitchen building at Oxford, being late 14thCentury, and despite the name, is the earliest extant college kitchen in either Oxford or Cambridge. We are yet to decipher the age of these particular ridge tiles as, of necessity, the ridge will have been re-furbished more than once over the last six centuries and the original medieval roof would not have had a roll-top. The current refurbishment will see the roof re-covered in stone slates replacing the Victorian peg tiles. Some of the ridges may be contemporaneous to the Victorian work but we think most are of a much earlier date.

Some trimming may be required along the length of the run that, of this type, totals at around 12m. Some chips and losses and weathered commensurate with age.

As on the College building this ridge could be matched with similar runs from adjacent pitches – also salvaged.
