This communal drinking vessel – a “tyg” would have been been brought out to pass around the assembled hunt – before, during and after the chase.

Several Oxford college beagle packs lasted in some form into the twentieth century – New College Beagles was formed in 1896 – Balliol, Christ Church, Exeter, Magdalen,
and Trinity also kept hunting dogs. The New College Beagles amalgamated with Magdalen’s in 1903, picking up Trinity’s too in 1912, then further amalgamating in 1950 with Christ Church’s (founded in 1874)—after those of other colleges had dropped out—until the Christ Church and New College Beagles finally amalgamated with the Farley Hill Beagles in 1971, and became the “Christ Church and Farley Hill Beagles”.
