Stamped "J.M.Blashfield, Stamford" these corbels date from between 1858-1859 when Blashfield's works moved from Millwall to Stamford Lines and 1872 when the stamp was altered, James Blashfield 1811-1882 enjoyed widespread success in his day despite ultimate bankruptcy in 1872. He won medals at the 1862 International Exhibition and the silver medal at the 1867 Paris Exhibition. Championed by the likes of Charles Barry, his products were praised for their quality of execution, their durability and their surprising cheapness.
