This is a replica piece. Period Victorian corbelled chimneypieces used to be found by "LASSCO St. Michael's" on a weekly basis. They were simply being heaved into skips on renovation sites. Today, with a widespread concern to retain or reinstate period features to Victorian houses, examples in good condition are rare to come on to the market. With the Italian white marbles commanding impossibly high prices and the Chinese white marbles being of poor quality and markedly crystaline, this marble is sourced from the Middle East. The result is only lightly veined and is of a good dense white patination, non-translucent and takes well to carving. In a market that LASSCO once stood virtually alone in, but one now rife with competition, these superior replica chimneypieces compare very favourably on their faithful design, their material, their execution and their price.
