This is a replica piece and also available through our printed catalogue. Joan of Arc (1412-1431) (French - Jeanne d'Arc), also called the Maid of Orleans, a patron saint of France and a national heroine, led the resistance to the English invasion of France in the Hundred Years War. In her brief career she terrified English troops in battle which lead to some extraordinary victories; she was enobled by the Dauphin and given place of honour at his coronation. On her eventual capture she was interrogated for months before being burned at the stake in Rouen market place, aged only nineteen. She was beatified in 1909 and canonized in 1920 by Pope Benedict XV. KEYWORDS: wall plaque, French, decorative stonework
