His waistcoat unbuttoned and holding his horsehair wig in his left hand he pauses to mop his brow all while being stung by insects beneath a burning sun. Though set in fields and near a windmill, the person of the merchant and the milestone likely indicate he is visiting a coutry tavern a short walk from London
