Capt. Wellby of the 18th Hussars was an explorer, plant collector and published author. His best known works were "Through Unknown Tibet" and "Twixt Sirdar and Menelik" (the latter recently reprinted). Both are wonderful glimpses into respectively Himalayan and East African worlds through the eyes of a colonial diarist. He served in the Boer War, was involved in the defence of Ladysmith and fell from wounds received at Mertzicht in 1900 aged 34. "Drew & Sons" were one of the best trunk and travel goods manufacturers and were bases at Piccadilly Circus from the 1870s until 1914 when they moved to Regents Street. They held the patent for this "Wood Fibre Trunk".
