‘There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea’. ~Henry James, The Portrait of a Lady
Alas this ‘ceremony’ is fast becoming a thing of the past with the once elegant Basil Street Hotel in Knightsbridge – that urbane reminder of our Edwardian past – recently closing.
Sadly stripped of all its former interior glory and with its ultimate fate as yet unknown, there is still a silver lining. LASSCO has fortunately been able to retrieve much of its elegant Burmese Teak parquet, a sample of which can now be seen in their showroom at Brunswick House, Vauxhall.
Rich in colour and with that all inimitable patina of age, this is a floor to admire!
