The shaped back of buttoned leather, flanked by shaped winged side, leading to separate loose cushion. The arms are pleasingly wore, and the use of brass studs to all edges. The whole raised on square fluted front legs and square sabre to back. It makes for a very comfortable reading chair. -

the canted corner shelf and plain frieze supported by a pair of elaborately modelled double-fired terracotta jambs in the Renaissance style, likely taking influence from ‘The Door of the Frog’ (Porta delle Rana), Como Cathedral. -

Widths with a variance (15cm and 16.5cm wide), to be laid in alternating courses. Square-edged in a mixture of lengths 1.2 to 3m as salvaged. Tongued to the short end on many and adzed to the underside to fit the joists – betraying their age. Good grey/silver colouration with a straight grain. -

In the mid-19th century, Home Education had become very popular for the masses and lecturer, Charles Blunt seeing a gap in the market came up with these illustrations. Blunt who specialised in astronomy and natural philosophy, saw the need for a series of ‘accurate yet popular’ plates illustrating the known Universe. These hand-finished aquatints prints were based on Blunt’s own drawings, depicting celestial and astrological subjects.
