This hob-grate, that we salvaged from a Wiltshire house, is a design classic of its day. Patterns similar to this were cast by both the Coalbrookdale foundry in Shropshire and the Carron foundry in Falkirk, Scotland. The former famously cast a similar model to this that incorporated an elevation of Abraham Darby's "Ironbridge". The location in which it was discovered, the quality of the casting and the design all point to Coalbrookdale (but we'll check this and update!). See "The Fashionable Fireplace" Temple Newsam, for more info.
