The Road To The Marsh, Hythe.
Aquatint depicting the road to Hythe, Hampshire, by William Westley Manning RBA (1868-1954). Signed.
W. W. Manning studied initially at the Slade School of Fine Art and at the Académie Julian in Paris in 1892 before moving to the Central School of Arts and Crafts under Malcolm Osborne. He was a prolific exhibitor including at the Fine Art Society, the New English Art Club, the Royal Academy and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters as well as at many other venues in England and abroad. He was elected to the Royal Society of British Artists (RBA) in 1901 and made an Associate of the Society of Painter-Etchers (ARE) in 1919 and was a member of the Royal Institute of Painters (ROI). He travelled extensively and was a frequent visitor to Cornwall and became a member of the St Ives Society of Artists. His work is in many public collections including the V&A Museum as well as the British Museum.
Manning's frequent excursions to Wessex and the West Country led to the creation of a series of drypoint studies of coastal and rural scenes, particularly in Hampshire
