Nineteenth century Sabicu library table
c.1825, in the manner of William Trotter (1772-1833),
of unusual configuration and size, with oppositing drawers to the short sides of the rectangular top, the tapered and turned column with decorative band moulding supported by quatreform base, the scroll feet with castors.

Sabicu – or ‘Horse-flesh Mahogany’ as it was known – was a hardwood imported from Cuba and The Bahamas in the nineteenth century celebrated for its durability, hardness and ability to resist invasion from wood-beetle.
