Henry Barruad was one of 17 children of William Francis and Sophia Barraud. His father. a Custom House clerk, was son of the famed Huguenot Horologist Paul Philip Barraud.
Henry Barraud often worked in close collaboration with his brother William, specialising in portraiture and animal painting. He became a firm favourite of Queen Victoria from whom he received a commission in 1844 to paint ‘Mr Maynard; Master of the Beagles to Queen Victoria‘, now in the Royal Collection.
Barruad also exhibited freqently at The Royal Academy between 1833 and 1859.
