This stands were kept as ornaments at the hearth and used for the daily making of oat-cakes – a staple of rural diet particularly in Ireland and Scotland. They could also be used for the broiling of steaks over the embers. Today they make great stands for cook-books. This example is rustic and rather beautiful – all fire-welded on a forge.
