The Poro tribe of Sierra Leone are said to be the largest and most influential fraternal tribe-society.
The Poro mask was traditionally used in rite-of-passage ceremonies, initiating young boys into the society. It is adorned with natural fibre hair, braided and tied to emphasise creativity and communication.
