This pot was sourced in Morocco; similar pots can originate from anywhere in the Mediterranean region – although old ones like these are becoming hard to find. It could be considerably older than 19th Century – they are hard to date. they’ve been made this way for at least three millennia. They are often kept in cool cellars and are sealed for long-term and seasonal storage of all manner of produce: grain, olive oil, figs etc. They make wonderful garden ornaments – whilst we can’t guarantee them against frost we know them to be very hardy.
