Charles Wheeler is a sculptor who we are rather fond of – an article “Missing in Action: Charles Wheeler’s Post War Architectural Sculpture”, concerning his work was recently posted on “3rd Dimension”, the on-line Magazine and Newsletter for the Public Monuments and Sculpture Association (PMSA) and can be viewed in its original location here. We were delighted to help Sarah Crellin with this piece and together we are still working towards inserting known locations of some sculpture to The Sir Charles Wheeler archive held at the Henry Moore Foundation, Leeds. (nb. It is heart-warming that our efforts to record the historical context of architectural salvage are here recognised).
On a similar subject, the exhibition, “Out There – Our Post-War Public Art” can be viewed at Somerset House, London but only until Sunday (10/4/2016); it tells the story of the trials and tribulations of public art from The Festival of Britain onwards – recommended. AR
