1720 Plan of the City's of London, Westminster and Borough of Southwark

Original antique map, published in 1720 by John Senex and engraved by Samuel Parker.


Showing London as it was built after the Great Fire of 1666, it includes an index to all the parishes. The title cartouche is dedicated to Sir Peter Delme, a wealth woolen merchant who was made Sheriff of London for 1717–18 and elected Lord Mayor of London for 1723–24. Two cornucopias, one of fruit and one of precious metal objects and jewels allude the London's mercantile greatest whilst at the base is a portrait of King George I, whose sword and scepter are supported by two dragons.
